The Deconstruct started in 2020 when Malini, an IIT Kharagpur engineer with a corporate background, got fed up with how Indian skincare brands talked about their products: big claims, vague ingredient lists, marketing dressed up as science. The brand's whole pitch is "information over impulse," meaning every product comes with a plain explanation of what's in it, what it does, and who it's for.

The early lineup was six serums, and the range has since grown into sunscreens, cleansers, and scalp care, with sunscreen as a particular strength: gel-based and mattifying, built for Indian heat and humidity rather than adapted from a formula made for somewhere colder. The brand also treats skincare as gender-neutral and beginner-friendly, formulations are designed so a first-time user and someone who reads every ingredient list can both find something that works, without either feeling patronised or out of their depth.

Worth knowing going in: The Deconstruct is no longer a small DTC brand testing the waters. It has grown into a roughly ₹200 crore business, recently raised ₹65 crore from L'Oréal's own venture fund alongside Kalaari Capital, V3 Ventures, and DSG Consumer Partners, and sells across 15-plus platforms including Nykaa, Myntra, Amazon, and Flipkart. If you're after an obscure indie find, this isn't it. This is a brand that has already won over a lot of people, which is a different kind of recommendation than a hidden gem.

Best for: anyone who wants skincare basics explained properly before they buy, rather than figuring it out from reviews after the fact, and especially anyone shopping for a sunscreen that won't turn into a slip-and-slide by noon.
