Harsh Somaiya started in garment manufacturing in 2014, producing for Zara, Mango, and Marks & Spencer. Tanvi, a NIFT Mumbai graduate, joined him to handle brand and factory operations. They learned, from the inside, what separates a well-made garment from a forgettable one. Then their factory folded under a ₹25 crore loan in 2019, and they started over.

The Bear House launched in 2017 with a premise that sounds simple but turns out to be rare: elevated menswear designed for how Indian men actually live. Not occasion wear, not fast fashion. Shirts that move from a coworking space to a coffee shop without demanding a wardrobe change. Trousers that sit right without looking like they were borrowed from a relative's wedding. European minimalism, calibrated for Indian proportions.

The manufacturing background is not just a founder story to put on the About page. It shows in the fabric choices, the construction, and the fact that The Bear House closed FY25 at ₹140 crore in revenue at roughly 18% EBITDA, profitable and measured in its growth. A Series A of approximately ₹50 crore from JM Financial has since gone into 18 stores across 10 cities in India and two outlets in the UAE, which is a deliberate expansion for a brand that learned the hard way what overextension costs.

The honest caveat: product names on the website are internal SKU codes (GFINI-OW, WAVEL-MB, ADIEL-MR) that have made their way into the storefront, making browsing feel more like a stockroom visit than a brand experience. A small friction for a brand that otherwise gets the premium basics category right.

Best for: the man who wants a wardrobe that works everywhere without having to think about it.
